Emotional Freedom Techniques: A profound yet simple method of healing

For most people Emotional Freedom Techniques are a relatively new discovery in the area of personal development. I came across it by mistake when I was searching online for a training course in Psychotherapy.  E.F.T. is a branch of Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Hypnotherapy and has borrowed  some approaches from past life regression and Time Line therapies.I was impressed by the fact that it didn’t need too much extensive study as I was looking for something to blend with my repertoire of skills as a Complementary Health Therapy Professional.

E.F.T. can be taught in three levels ; Level One teaches the tapping methods for self healing  and working with friends and family to help overcome stored up thoughts and emotions such as anger, fear, jealousy or resentments which are causing personal problems. The tapping method is constructive and allows individuals, couples and groups to work closely together in a non-judgemental environment whereby each person partners up and takes turns throughout the course of the day to reflect and work on issues that have obstructed their growth and potential while the E.F.T. instructor assists the process .Level two and three on the other hand are for more serious practitioners either in a lifestyle or professional capacity.

I found an advertisement on a notice board for this training in my home city of Cork and quickly contacted the hosts number which funnily enough turned out to be a friend’s husband who was a Hypnotherapist undertaking his teacher training level with our instructor Michelle  A. Hardwick an internationally recognised professional  E.F.T. teacher/trainer.

On the two weekends that it took to complete the level 1 and 2 trainings I was introduced to many approaches for certification with the Association for the Advancement of Meridian Energy Therapies(AAMET). Many of which were difficult to process as I was to work on painful memories of the past 10 years, although it was challenging it was this emotional release that confirmed to me its profound therapeutic benefits. I was excited and relieved by this powerful transformation and at the same time was finally giving myself permission to completely accept and heal all the disowned parts of my life that I had ignored.

Emotional Freedom Techniques in my opinion are an excellent way of dealing with issues you cannot address in a normal setting(with others present), it is a universal aid that is in use worldwide by practitioners in therapeutic professions as well as the general public.

It was founded by Gary Craig an Energy healer/ Psychotherapist who spent over 30 years developing it’s use in professional practice. The discovery behind the method is that emotional upsets are the result of an imbalance in the body’s energy system,it is an emotional healing technique that is also capable of drastically relieving many physical symptoms based on a revolutionary new discovery that violates most of the beliefs within conventional psychology.

Studies have shown that the cause of all negative emotions are a disruption in the body’s energy system. Emotional Freedom Techniques address this by a seemingly strange but scientific routine; it works by tapping with the fingertips on various body locations, this tapping serves to balance energy pathways also known as meridians which become disrupted when the person performing the tapping sequence thinks about or becomes involved in an emotionally disturbing circumstance. The actual memory stays the same but the emotional charge is reduced and in the majority of cases the issue no longer remains a problem, typically the result are lasting and cognitive behaviour changes in a healthy direction as a natural result of the healing.

This tapping along the body’s energy pathways while speaking is a natural way to focus the mind,it literally helps us “rewire” the emotional patterns that we have for so long triggered in painful ways. With these techniques we are given the choice of “emotional freedom” to feel different, lighter, less burdened by the past, less susceptible to reacting with these painful emotions.  Used daily E.F.T. can help support a balanced, stress free, relaxed mind and body as it replaces emotional distress, tension and anxiety with peace of mind and a greater sense of tranquility.

In addition, people often look and feel younger and healthier as they learn to erase the self-doubt and unhappiness from their body thus enhancing self-image. The conditions and issues that have responded well to E.F.T. are; *Fear *Grief *Guilt *Anxiety and Panic Attacks * Negative memories*Relationship/Sexual abuse issues * Post-traumatic Stress disorder* Anger* Phobias * Compulsions and Obsessions *Addictions* Relief of Pain *Allergies* Insomnia *Dyslexia * Enhanced peak performance (e.g. Sports,Public speaking ect). The techniques are simple to learn and easy to use , It is safe ,gentle, painless and fun with remarkably proven and impressive results which are usually long-lasting.

If you are interested in this therapy for whatever reason feel free to check out the links especially Michelle Hardwicks website, she normally holds training workshops at various venues in Cork around Ireland and abroad.

  1. Hi Lifewithdamien,
    Thanks for the info Hi,

I’ve been suffering from depersonalization for over a year now (feeling like I’m not properly here!) If anyone knows about depersonalization and if the emotional freedom technique helps to get rid of it, please reply, thanks :~)
    Keep up the good work
